Red Cross Lifeguard Training

CLASS TYPE: Lifeguard Certification
AGE: Adults & Teens (15 years and older)
DURATION: Approximately 28 hours over multiple days (see schedule for complete details)

Class Description:

Equips participants with the information and skill sets to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies (breathing and cardiac emergencies, physical injuries and illnesses, etc.).  Learning will occur in both classroom and pool settings.  Classroom learning will primarily take place at UH-Avon while most water rescue skills will be practiced at the North Olmsted Recreation Center.


Participants must pass a swim test conducted during the first day of the course:

  • Swim 300 yards continuously

  • Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs (hands in armpits)

  • Complete the following within 1 minute and 40 seconds

    a.     Swim 20 yards

b.     Surface dive and retrieve a 10-lb object from depth of 7-10 ft

c.      Swim 20 yards back to starting point

d.     Exit pool without using ladder or stairs

Primary Focus:

●      Active and Passive Saves

●      Choking/Breathing Emergencies

●      CPR/AED

●      Escapes (Active Drowning)

●      Head, Neck, and Spinal saves

●      CPR/AED Training

●      In-water rescue skills for single and multiple rescuer scenarios 

Upon completing this course, participants will receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED, valid for 2 years.  Participants may then apply for jobs at pools across the country.

Waterfront or Aquatic Attraction jobs will require an additional module or course not included in the Full Lifeguarding course being offered.

$385.00 for 6 classes (includes all class materials)
